Gillian Anderson Teases The Return of ‘William’ on The X-Files

The six-episode revival of The X-Files is just over two months away, and Fox hasn’t finished teasing it yet. Earlier today, returning original series star Gillian Anderson was featured in a special preview video that was located after fans completed an online scavenger hunt.

From the set of The X-Files miniseries, Anderson said that she couldn’t tell fans about what’s coming up…but she did show off 21 still images from the upcoming episodes. The only catch was that the images were only onscreen for a very short period of time.

As for the rest of the teaser images from the video, here’s a gallery of all 21 pictures in order.

Most of the images were fairly spoiler proof. But there was one picture that seems to be hinting at a nearly forgotten character from the original TV series. Consider this your SPOILER WARNING!

As you may recall, William was the son of Mulder and Scully, who was born during the eighth season of The X-Files. It was broadly hinted that baby William had some alien DNA that also gave him special powers. Late in the ninth season, William was written out of the show when he was “cured” of his powers shortly before Scully gave him up for adoption.

The name on the phone could be meant as a trick for long time fans. But considering that the name William holds special significance for Mulder and Scully, it’s hard to imagine it not being used to refer to their son. Another thing to keep in mind is that baby William would be around 16 to 17 years old in 2016. So if any male teenagers show up on the series’ casting list, there is a strong possibility that they could be playing William.

The X-Files will return to Fox on Sunday, January 24.
