Snoop Dogg Launches His Own Cannabis Brand ‘Leafs by Snoop’

In the rush to legalization, it was only a matter of time: Snoop Dogg has launched his own cannabis brand, which he has named ‘Leafs By Snoop’. The Colorado-based company will sell “the finest quality cannabis one could imagine,” according to a release. Its company name is presumably inspired by Dr Dre’s Beats By Dre headphone range.

Fittingly, the move makes Snoop the first celebrity to front a line of personally branded marijuana products. The company stocks a range of cannabis flowers (the buds you smoke), edibles, concentrates and more, and will be sold at licensed Colorado cannabis shop LivWell before being introduced at other stores.

“Wherever my musical journey has taken me around the world, it’s beautiful to see how chronic leafs are a common source of peace, love and soul that connects us all,” Snoop Dogg said in a statement on the company’s official website. “Since I’ve been at the forefront of this movement for over 20 years now, I’m a master of marijuana,” the rapper added at a launch event on Monday (November 9), according to The Guardian. “Leafs By Snoop is truly the first mainstream cannabis brand in the world and proud to be a pioneer.”

The state of Colorado legalized both medical and recreational use of marijuana in 2012, and by all accounts, the experiment has been a staggering success. By September 2015, the state had nearly doubled its legal marijuana tax revenue from the year before, pulling in $73.5 million in revenue which has gone directly to improving school systems and state projects. Colorado is ranked as one of the the fastest growing economies. The unemployment rate is at its lowest since 2008, well below the national average. Meanwhile, violent crime and property crime in Denver — the most populated city in Colorado, in terms of both people and weed dispensaries — dropped 10.6 percent compared to that same span one year earlier, according to official statistics. Homicides have dropped to less than half of last year’s levels, and motor vehicle theft has diminished by over one-third.

Earlier this year, Snoop launched “the encyclopedia to the cannabis world,” MerryJane.com.
