Donald Glover’s New TV Series Atlanta Picked Up by FX

Before Donald Glover starred in NBC’s Community as Troy Barnes, he was a writer on 30 Rock. But in Glover’s new TV project, he will write and star in a series of his own creation.

FX has announced a ten episode first season pickup for Atlanta, which stars Glover as Earnest “Earn” Marks, one of two cousins attempting to make it in Atlanta’s rap scene. Glover will also executive produce the series alongside Paul Simms (Flight of the Conchords) and Dianne McGunigle for FX Productions. Glover will also draw upon his own life and his musical career as Childish Gambino in Atlanta.

Atlanta draws on Donald’s considerable talents as a musician, actor and writer to give us something unique,” said FX’s Nick Grad. “The story is made all the more powerful by the great cast and the contributions of Donald’s fellow Executive Producer Paul Simms and director Hiro Murai.”

Brian Tyree Henry will co-star in Atlanta as Alfred Miles, with Lakeith Lee Stanfield as Darius, and Zazie Beetz as Van. The pilot episode of Atlanta was directed by Hiro Murai, who previously collaborated with Glover on several Childish Gambino music videos in addition to his stints as a cinematographer on Funny or Die Presents… and Drunk History.

Atlanta will debut on FX in 2016.
