Kanya Sesser is subverting expectations when it comes to what people believe a model should look like, with the Thailand-born California resident having forged out a career as a lingerie model even though she was born without legs.
Kanya was abandoned by a Buddhist temple in Thailand when she was just one week old, and was brought over to the US five years later by her adoptive parents. After previously modeling for a number of brands, including Billabong, at the age of 15, Kanya eventually moved into the world of lingerie modeling, along with also taking a vested interest in extreme sports.
Now she is planning to compete 2018 in the Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, in the uno-ski competition, with her also listing surfing and basketball among her hobbies. Kanya also travels without the use of a wheelchair, instead using a skateboard.
Speaking to the New York Daily News, Kanya said of her modeling career: “It’s something fun and it shows my story — I’m different and that is sexy, I don’t need legs to feel sexy.
“I enjoy making money from it and I love showing people what beauty can look like. These images show my strength.”
