The first two round of the 2015 PGA Championship here at Whistling Straits ended with a massive summer storm that ripped across Wisconsin’s Lake Michigan shore, but the perfect weather that gripped the course prior to that squall served up great golf and beautiful images.
Before the last of golf’s annual Majors could wrap up its second round, a classic Midwestern thunderstorm ripped through the course — giving the Whistling Straits grounds crew plenty to work on overnight before the pros wrap up the second round and tee off their third round.

As the thunder and lightning sent players, caddies and fans scrambling for cover late in the second round, the PGA Championship leaderboard had Jason Day and Matt Jones up top at nine under. But, there are 12 players within four strokes of the lead, including Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Justin Rose.
After playing Whistling Straits a few weeks before the PGA, I found the course to be immaculate, yet unforgiving. At the time, I sided with course officials and other experts and predicted a winning scores around 10 to 12 under par. Considering these pros are en route to a winning score of 18 to 20 under on such a brutally tough course is an absolute testament to their seemingly super human skills.
The Wisconsin weather promises to stay clear through the weekend, putting Whistling Straits in position to offer a classic Major outcome. For now, you can enjoy the sights of rounds one and two at this year’s PGA.
