Watch Kendrick Lamar Interview N.W.A, Go Full Fanboy

Even Kendrick Lamar, the “New King Of The West Coast”, can have fanboy moments. Earlier this month the rapper shared the love as he teamed up with his “big bro” Mos Def, and now he’s been starstruck during an interview with the four living members of super-influential hip hop outfit N.W.A.

Lamar’s fanboy-friendly chat with Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, DJ Yella and MC Ren (below) was almost 25 years in the making, and coincided with the N.W.A chaps’ first magazine cover shoot since Ice Cube went solo in 1991.

The interview, which can be viewed below via Billboard, carried special significance for Lamar, whose hometown of Compton, California was largely defined by the music and politics of N.W.A.

The current N.W.A foursome – sans Eazy-E, who died of AIDS in 1995 – sat down with Lamar for an in-depth chat about the group’s early days, the “bullshit” of the music industry and N.W.A’s impact on the world.

Going straight into fanboy mode, Lamar said, “Man I’m tripping right now. Man, I’m bugging… I got too many questions, so bear with me.” The feeling was mutual though, with Ice Cube saying, “Ain’t nobody we’d rather have do this interview.”

Lamar’s chat with N.W.A comes as the feature film biopic about the group, Straight Outta Compton, is released, following Dr. Dre’s new album, Compton.
