The Dead Weather Return With ‘Dodge and Burn’ on Sept. 25

The Dead Weather are returning with their first album in five years, and now we have a calendar box to focus on.

Dodge and Burn, the follow-up to the churning Sea of Cowards, will be released on September 25th on Jack White’s Third Man Records label, and has been high on our list of the 50 Most Anticipated Albums of 2015. The group announced the release date on their official Facebook page.

We’ve had a few teaser tracks from the group, and the results are quite good.  The smoky strut-rocker with a funk edge that is “Buzzkill(er)” was matched by the sexiness of “Open Up (That’s Enough),” creating quite a momentum of excitement among fans.

In a statement, Third Man Records explained the new songs as “unlike anything else the band has ever done and are both ample reminders of the ferocity of this motley collection of low-lifes, grifters and ne’er-do-wells.” Sounds good to us. Given that Jack took Album of The Year honors for 2014, we’re putting hard money on this one kicking some serious ass.

In a more recent press release for Dodge and Burn, the band recounts how they “spent their rare and sporadic free moments over the past year recording together in Nashville. With the members of the band heavily involved in other projects, The Dead Weather will not be touring in support of the new album.”

We’ll just have to see about that.
