Eva Carneiro Was Told to Do Her Job and is Now Being Punished For it

Footage of the incident during Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea that has led to the London club’s doctor Eva Carneiro being demoted has revealed that, despite Jose Mourinho claiming that she had made the wrong decision by treating Eden Hazard on the pitch, she was actually summoned by the referee of the match.

Carneiro was criticised by Mourinho for not “understanding the game” as she entered the pitch to treat Hazard in stoppage time, an incident which Mourinho believed wasted time. However, as reported by The Independent, footage of the events prior to Carneiro treating Hazard show the referee calling for Chelsea’s medical staff to take the pitch, despite Mourinho’s protests that they did so of their own accord.

Carneiro was reportedly swiftly demoted following the incident, with Mourinho no longer taking her to the club’s first-team matches and forbidding her from even travelling to the same hotels as the squad during their away games. She is, however, still the first-team doctor back at Stamford Bridge, though it is unclear whether she has accepted this new role after five seasons with the club in which she has retained an exceptional injury record.

Carneiro could now fight against her demotion using this new evidence to support her case, as the club now looks to appoint a new first-team doctor ahead of Chelsea’s game against Manchester City. Or she could choose to pack her bags and leave Chelsea, considering that Mourinho’s over-reaction would certainly lead many to wipe their hands of the manager and the club.

Carneiro took to Facebook following news of her demotion began to circulate, thanking fans for their support.
