Electric Forest Recap: Skrillex Joins String Cheese Incident, Covers The Doors

One of the pivotal features of a music festival done right is the opportunity for artists to combine forces and collaborate on uncharted sonic territory. This year’s Electric Forest festival was no different, as the String Cheese Incident had more than enough tricks up its sleeve to spread among the 40,000 ticketholders who made the trek to the Double JJ Resort in the woods of Rothbury, MI to experience an expanded festival grounds and two new stages, with featured performances from  Bassnectar, Skrillex, Kaskade, Flume, Big Gigantic, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and many more..

The String Cheese Incident performed three times at this year’s Electric Forest Festival, the third of which saw the encore addition of mainstream EDM floodgate-opener Skrillex in addition to a legendary New Orleans collective. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s horn section made an appearance for a wildly celebrated numbers, including Kool and The Gang’s “Hollywood Swinging” and Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk,” as well as the original “Miss Brown’s Teahouse.”

Skrillex’s scheduled set immediately followed String Cheese’s on the Ranch Arena stage, but took a moment to get in touch with his roots when he strapped on a guitar to offer assistance on a cover of The Doors’ “Break on Through,” with a slice of “LA Woman,” as well as their set-ending superjam.
