SXSW 2015 Video: Karyn Kusama on ‘The Invitation’

Horror movies: they aren’t just for kids anymore. And really, they never had to be. Filmmaker Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body) is at SXSW 2015 this year with her new film The Invitation, and she’s trying to freak out adults this time, playing to mature anxieties instead of teenage phobias.

We spoke to Karyn Kusama at the DailyMotion Lounge at SXSW to learn more about The Invitation, and talk about how movies for adults used to dominate the box office and why the time may finally be right for them to make a comeback. Karyn Kusama also reveals the horrifying influences on The Invitation and a heck of a lot more.

The Invitation stars Michiel Huisman (Wild), Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus), John Carroll Lynch (Shutter Island), Tammy Blanchard (Moneyball), Toby Huss (Halt and Catch Fire) and Karl Yune (Real Steel). The eery log line reads: “While attending a dinner party at his former home, a man thinks his ex-wife and her new husband have sinister intention for their guests.”
