Microsoft Assembles New Studio to Work on “Beloved Strategy Game Franchise”

This is Age of Empires, one of Microsoft’s flagship RTS titles.

A previously unknown development studio owned by Microsoft Game Studios has appeared on a job listing. The team is called The Decisive Games, and it appears to be in the middle of development of what could be one of Microsoft’s next big game announcements.

The Senior Software Engineer position includes the following sentence in its description:

…focused on world class strategy game development, and is building a studio that will bring the next installment in a beloved strategy game franchise to the next generation of gamers around the world.

When you think “beloved strategy game franchise” and Microsoft, you think Halo Wars and Age of Empires. Both of these are games that have experienced noteworthy success, but haven’t made a major appearance in quite some time.

Made better, the listing references both Xbox and PC. This lines up with the trend of currently in-development Microsoft Game Studios that appear to be making their debut on Windows 10 in addition to Xbox One. It is expected that Microsoft will share its vision during its developer conference on January 20th.

Microsoft has taken some flak for buying up “only” exclusive and timed exclusive titles instead of creating new studios, but that isn’t necessarily always the case, and The Decisive Games is one example of that.

Whatever this game is, it isn’t ready for announcement quite yet, but should make an appearance of some form during this year. While we wait, let us know what you hope the game is in the comments below.
