Beats Antique’s Worldly Psychedelia Bewilders & Enthralls at ACL

Gearing up for their hugely anticipated Creature Carnival tour later this month, Beats Antique brought their psychedelic world-music sound to Austin City Limits on Saturday for an electrifying performance that undoubtedly earned the group more prominent stage placement in the future.

Fresh off an interview with Crave and a very special performance with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band in New Orleans, Beats took to the Austin Ventures stage with a minimal stage design – two operating platforms for multi-instrumentalist David Satori and drummer Tommy Cappel, while the majority of the stage was reserved for the visual centerpiece of Zoe Jakes. A stunning vision in an evolving range of costumes, Zoe led attendees through a belly-dancing, body-contorting physical interpretation of sound.

While the full Beats Antique show experience can see as many as 30 players in an orchestral production, watching the trio captivate on a stripped platform was a mesmerizing show of dexterity and professionalism from an act we’ve been honored to watch evolve over the years.
