2014 Lollapalooza Lineup Arrives in Full… But Where’s The Excitement?

Last week we brought you the news that Eminem, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and Skrillex would headline Lollapalooza’s 2014 lineup. The full Lollapalooza lineup has now arrived for the Aug. 1-3 Chicago fest, with added notables including OutKas, Portugal. The Man, Broken Bells, Childish Gambino and Calvin Harris.

Lollapalooza is expected to once again reach capacity of 100,000 for each day to see 130 bands and artists perform on eight stages. Unless you’re a Lolla devotee, however, it’s difficult to justify spending upwards of $1,000 between travel, accommodations and tickets to see what amounts to a rehash of former Lollapalooza lineup highlights. Single day passes, which are $100, go on sale today (Wednesday).

All four bands have played the fest before, with Eminem headlining in 2011 and Skrillex playing both 2011 and 2013. Kings of Leon headlined in 2009, and Arctic Monkeys, long Lolla staples, are finally getting their headliner due. But the lack of any big reunions, major left hooks or surprises like Bonnaroo and even Coachella make Lollapalooza a questionable decision – particularly if a selling point is Outkast, whose reunion tour is taking them through 40 different festivals this summer.

This, of course, says nothing of how incredibly excited we are to watch Eminem lip-sync over recorded beats as he waves his hand around and scowls menacingly. That’s true headliner material, folks.
