Tool are gearing up for an active 2014, with a reported new album on the horizon and an expanding set of tour plans. The high royalty of progressive rock took to their official site to announce that they’ve added southern dates to their existing 2014 show schedule.
On top of dates in Washington, Oregon, Northern California and Mexico, Tool are now booked for two more CA shows, one in Las Vegas, and three in Texas (dates in full below). Tickets for all of the newly confirmed dates — except for the March 25 performance in Houston — go on sale Friday, February 14 at 10 a.m. local time. VIP pre-sales will hit Thursday, February 13 at 10 a.m. PST through the band’s Tool Army fan club and 3 p.m. PST through Tool’s official website.
As for the arrival of a new album, we’re still waiting on official updates from the notoriously secretive band. When a new Tool record approaches, the entire music world stops to pay attention. The band has been writing since 2011, but with enigmatic frontman Maynard James Keenan’s focus shifting to winemaking, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle, there hasn’t been a front-burner rush to get a follow-up out to 2007’s unbelievably awesome 10,000 Days.
However, in a recent visit to Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, Maynard got everyone’s jimmies rustled and chakras a-jumble by dropping the following news regarding actual progress on a new album: “I’m gonna stop by the rehearsal space today, in theory, having beaten them up going, “please give me music, please give me music, please give me music, please give me music, please give me music.” In theory they have a CD for me today, to listen to some jams, so we can get this thing going.”
