Van Persie and David Moyes Praise Wayne Rooney’s Return to Form

Wayne Rooney’s teammate Van Persie and manager David Moyes have praised the striker, after he chalked up his 200th goal for Manchester United, only the fourth player in the Red Devils’ history to do so.

Rooney reached the milestone during another impressive performance yesterday, this time against Bayer Leverkusen in their Champions League match-up, and seems to have shaken off the poor form he displayed last season.

His 2 goals in United’s 4-2 victory against the German club rattle up his tally to 3 goals in as many games, following his goal against Crystal Palace in the Premier League last weekend. David Moyes sang the 27-year-olds praises after the match. saying: “Wayne was great today. I’m not a Manchester United historian but I think there are only four people to do it.

“I said he has a real chance to be one of the all-time leading goalscorers at this club and if he keeps playing like he did tonight he will get there. He was very, very good.

“You’ll talk about his goals but his pass for Antonio’s goal as well and he could’ve made it 2-0 after rounding the goalkeeper and they come up the pitch and make it 1-1.

“I think he looks like he is moving as well as he has done.

“He is in a good place himself at the moment and obviously any centre-forward who is scoring goals feels good about himself.”

Rooney’s striking partner Van Persie concurred, saying: “He has a bit of everything. He can go up front, he can play in behind. He can play the short game and the longer game.

“I love to play alongside Wayne.”

Looks like Rooney’s future at Old Trafford might not be so uncertain after all.
