Listen: Eskimo Joe Release New Single, New Sound

Eskimo Joe released the first single from their upcoming crowd-funded  album, ‘Running Out Of Needs’, and it features a new sound for the Fremantle boys.

‘Running Out Of Needs’ is a slow-starting, synth friendly track and appeared on the band’s official SoundCloud website Friday a day after releasing a short teaser a day earlier.

The Eskimo Joe trio- consisting of Kav Temperley, Stuart MacLeod and Joel Quartermain- opted to head down a different route for their sixth album, following up 2011’s Ghosts Of The Past with a crowd-funded release.

The band managed to raise $65,000 via a Pozible campaign which begun in November last year.

“It was pretty epic,” Temperley said of the crowd funding experience an interview with the Augusta-Maragret River Mail while touring in regional Western Australia last week.

“We were the first multi-platform band to do it, most bands have just been doing EPs,” he said.

“It was scary because bands don’t really do (crowd funding), and it could blow up in your face.

“If you make over the pledge amount, you can keep it all, but if you’re at 99.9 per cent and not the full amount, you don’t get to keep any of it.”

“It was a really positive experience and fans get this sense of ownership over the music.”

Eskimo Joe’s new album will hit shelves in September.
