Next-Gen Diablo 3 Delayed to 2014, Xbox One Version Hinted

Those looking to play Blizzard’s co-op masterpiece, Diablo 3, on next-gen hardware are going to need to wait a little longer.

Speaking to Diablofans, three Blizzard team members confirmed that the next-gen versions of Diablo 3 won’t release until 2014. Notice that it says versions, making it appear likely that a Xbox One version is in development. The Xbox 360 was added as a supported platform not long ago but Blizzard hasn’t followed up with an Xbox One confirmation. This small hint will have to do for now.

The reason given for the delay is that Blizzard wants the next-gen versions to be more than just simple visual upgrades. It wants to take advantage of some of new features and make sure it’s a noticeable leap above the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions.

The playable PS3 version on the E3 show floor ran well and looked good. If you can’t wait any longer to play Diablo 3 with friends in the living room then you can’t go wrong with the current-gen versions, which are still scheduled for a September 3rd release.
