The real reason Mckenna Grace disappeared from Young Sheldon’s final season isn’t what fans expected. A new behind-the-scenes book has finally shed light on the scheduling conflicts and backstage tensions that kept Paige Swanson out of the show’s goodbye.
Why Mckenna Grace was not in Young Sheldon’s ending revealed
Author Jessica Radloff’s new behind-the-scenes book has finally revealed why Mckenna Grace did not return for Young Sheldon’s final season.
In an exclusive interview with ScreenRant, Radloff explained that scheduling conflicts during Season 6 soured the relationship between the show’s team and Grace’s representatives. The fallout from that experience directly led producers to exclude Paige Swanson from Season 7.
According to Radloff, Grace’s team initially reached out about her availability during season 6. The writers then crafted two episodes centered on Paige. However, a competing project threatened Grace’s commitment to the second episode. Radloff said, “The problem was is that she’d already committed to the second episode. The writers already wrote the episode.”
Tensions escalated between the show’s producers and Grace’s agents over the scheduling dispute. Radloff noted, “Things got very heated with her agents in season six over that second episode.” Grace ultimately had to withdraw from her other project to honor her Young Sheldon commitment. The experience left producers reluctant to risk a repeat situation in the final season.
The 2023 Hollywood strikes further complicated matters by reducing Season 7 to just 14 episodes. Radloff explained that the shortened run forced writers to cut several planned storylines entirely. Producers simply could not justify the logistical challenges of bringing Grace back with fewer episodes available.
Radloff emphasized that the decision carried no personal animosity toward Grace. She stated, “The producers made clear that this was nothing against Mckenna. They love Mckenna.” Grace and co-star Raegan Revord also remain close friends off-screen. Grace’s final appearance showed Paige and Missy running away together before getting pulled over by police.
Grace currently has two major projects ahead. She stars in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, premiering November 20, 2026, and Netflix’s Scooby-Doo: Origins, expected in 2027.
