Cynthia Erivo’s Bad Fairies cast gets bigger
Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Locksmith Animation announced that Kylie Minogue, Jonathan Groff and Catherine Tate will voice characters in Bad Fairies. Minogue plays Clowder, the Cat Witch, Groff voices Robin Goodfellow, and Tate takes on the Fairy Gothmother, while Erivo leads the cast as Jayne Staplegun. In addition, Ncuti Gatwa voices Butterwort, Serrana Su-Ling Bliss plays Fei Chang, James Acaster lends his voice to Stickers, and Dee Bradley Baker brings Groundbeef to life (via Variety).
Erivo revealed the additions during her Thursday concert, Let Me Sing to You, at the Hollywood Bowl. She introduced Groff and Tate before announcing that Minogue, who was sitting in the audience, would also join the film.
This animated musical puts a mischievous spin on fairy-tale traditions, centering on a band of rebellious fairies determined to make a difference without playing by the usual rules. Megan Nicole Dong leads the project as director, with Olivier Staphylas sharing directing duties.
Deborah Frances-White penned the screenplay, while Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, the creative duo behind Six: The Musical, are crafting the musical numbers. Florence and the Machine’s Isabella “Machine” Summers will handle the film’s instrumental score.
Bill Damaschke, president of Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, said the new performers inject the production with a lively, fearless spirit. “With Kylie, Jonathan and Catherine joining her, we have a cast as bold and joyful as the film itself,” said Damaschke. Locksmith Animation CEO Natalie Fischer also applauded Erivo’s involvement, calling her voice “the soul of this film since she came on board.”
The musical adventure is heading for theaters on May 27, 2027. Animators are currently working on the production in London, with DNEG Animation providing digital animation support.
