Whalefall’s Post-Credits Scene Status Is Nothing Like Street Fighter

Since the release of Whalefall, fans have been wondering whether the film has a post-credits scene, comparing it to Street Fighter, which featured a mid-credits scene. Directed by Brian Duffield, the survival thriller centers on a grieving son, Jay Gardiner, who dives off the coast of California to find his father’s remains. Things take a dangerous turn when a massive whale swallows him. Trapped inside its stomach, he has only an hour to save himself before his oxygen supply runs out.

WARNING: Spoilers ahead!

Does Whalefall have any post-credits scenes at the end?

Whalefall does not feature a post-credits, mid-credits, or end-credits scene. The audience can leave the theater when the credits begin to roll. Sometimes filmmakers may add bonus scenes towards the end of the movie, either to resolve any existing plot queries or to tease a potential installment. In this movie’s case, the story seems to be self-contained and has no loose ends.

Moreover, there has been no announcement about the movie getting a sequel. The fate of a potential sequel will likely be decided after assessing the film’s box office performance and critical reception. If the movie performs exceptionally well, a sequel might happen.

Whalefall is adapted from the 2023 novel by Daniel Kraus of the same name. In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Duffield shared his experience of working with the original author. He said, “It was such a wonderful process. I joke that he’s my work husband now. Daniel says that writing a screenplay uses a completely different part of your brain than writing a novel, so I genuinely don’t remember there ever being a disagreement or an argument.”

Whalefall’s cast features Austin Abrams as Jay Gardiner, Josh Brolin as Mitt Gardiner, Elisabeth Shue as Zara Gardiner, John Ortiz as Hewey, and Jane Levy as Eva Gardiner, among many others.

The movie arrives in theaters in the US on October 16.
