The Love Hypothesis just dethroned a major action franchise on streaming’s biggest battlefield. The Star Wars-inspired rom-com continues to climb Prime Video’s charts, outpacing Alan Ritchson‘s latest project in the rankings.
The Love Hypothesis holds the second spot on Prime Video’s overall charts
The Love Hypothesis currently sits at number two on Prime Video’s overall Top 10 chart in the United States, according to FlixPatrol. The film has spent five days on the overall chart as of September 29, 2026. It trails only Neagley, which has held the top overall position for 12 consecutive days.
The romantic comedy claims the number one spot on Prime Video’s Top 10 Movies chart. It leads You+Me – Against the World and The Passenger in the movies ranking. The film has maintained its position atop the movies chart without movement since entering the list.
The Love Hypothesis adapts Ali Hazelwood’s 2021 bestselling romance novel of the same name. The story follows a PhD student and a professor at Stanford University who enter a fake relationship. Claire Scanlon directed the film from a screenplay by Sarah Rothschild.
Tom Bateman and Lili Reinhart lead the cast in the roles of Adam Carlsen and Olive Smith. Rachel Marsh, Jaboukie Young-White, Nicholas Duvernay, and Arty Froushan round out the supporting cast. Amazon MGM Studios and MRC produced the film, with Elizabeth Cantillon serving as producer.
The film premiered on Prime Video on September 23, 2026, and has held a consistent chart presence since. It currently holds a 75% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 51 critics’ reviews. Metacritic assigned the film a score of 59 out of 100 based on seven critics.
Hazelwood originally published the story online in 2018 as Head Over Feet, a Star Wars fan fiction work. The novel went on to become a New York Times bestseller after its physical publication. Principal photography for the adaptation took place in Montreal, Canada, during July and August 2025.
The Love Hypothesis is streaming on Prime Video, where it premiered on September 23, 2026.
