Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer might not be done with the MCU just yet, and fans have reason to pay attention. A new rumor suggests the mystery surrounding Shalla-Bal’s fate after The Fantastic Four: First Steps could finally get answered sooner than expected.
Why Avengers: Secret Wars could tell us what happened to Silver Surfer
According to MCU Film News on X, Julia Garner will reportedly return as Shalla-Bal in Avengers: Secret Wars. The rumor, sourced from @JamesMackwl, suggests the Silver Surfer’s story will continue beyond The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Garner previously portrayed the character in that film, marking her MCU debut.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduced Shalla-Bal as a key figure tied to Galactus. Her fate in that film left questions about the character’s future in the franchise. Secret Wars could now directly address what happened to her after those events.
Avengers: Secret Wars already features a massive ensemble cast confirmed for the project. Robert Downey Jr. returns as Doctor Doom, while Chris Evans reprises his role as Steve Rogers. The Russo Brothers direct the film, with Stephen McFeely writing the script alongside Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
The Fantastic Four cast members Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn all return for Secret Wars. Their confirmed presence establishes that the team’s storyline carries directly into the crossover event. Adding Garner’s Silver Surfer would further extend that narrative thread into the finale.
Marvel Studios set the film’s release date for December 17, 2027. The project serves as the final installment of Phase Six and The Multiverse Saga. Benedict Cumberbatch, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Letitia Wright, Paul Bettany, Simu Liu, and Sadie Sink round out the confirmed cast. Alan Silvestri composes the score.
Marvel has not officially confirmed Garner’s involvement at this time.
