Donald Trump’s Nobel Prize Frustration Collides With Threat To ‘Bomb’ Oman — Source

Donald Trump threatened to “bomb the s— out of” Oman as the deadline for a 60-day U.S.-Iran memorandum approached. The memorandum aimed to advance negotiations. Oman also said it was close to an agreement with Tehran that would allow oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

The developments came as sources discussed Trump’s interest in the Nobel Peace Prize. A Washington source and a diplomatic insider said the prize mattered to Trump personally. They also linked that interest to his diplomatic efforts.

Donald Trump’s threat against Oman adds turmoil to fragile US-Iran peace efforts

As RadarOnline reported, Trump made the threat on Aug. 18. Oman had remained neutral during the conflict and maintained longstanding partnerships with the United States and Britain.

A Washington source said, “The Nobel obsession has become an increasingly awkward backdrop whenever the president talks about ending wars. He wants to be seen as the man who forces peace into existence, but threatening a friendly country with devastating military action makes that sales pitch considerably harder.”

A diplomatic insider also said Trump’s interest in the Nobel Peace Prize had become a factor as diplomatic efforts faced setbacks. The source said allies had expressed disbelief over Oman serving as an intermediary while also facing threats.

British broadcaster Andrew Neil also addressed Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize record during an appearance on Times Radio. He said, “Nobody with good conscience can deny Donald Trump the Nobel Peace Prize. In just five months, he’s brought peace to the Iran War eight times! What more do you have to do to merit a Nobel Peace Prize?”

Trump claimed Washington still had a back channel to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard. He also said he faced no deadline for reaching an agreement.

“They’re good poker players, but they’re dying. I have no time schedule. I’m not in a hurry,” Trump said.

When asked about Oman, he said, “If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the s— out of them.”

The IRGC denied that secret discussions were taking place and accused Trump of inventing the negotiations. Iran’s foreign ministry said Tehran and Muscat had reached an understanding over a transit route through the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump also said preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remained his “number one goal.” He rejected claims that the conflict had depleted American stockpiles, saying, “What we’ve used is peanuts.”
