The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the incident, which took place at the Los 5 Puntos market on July 7 at around 3:20 p.m, and found three injured people, according to a report from KTLA 5.
The victims include an approximately 50-year-old woman who suffered a broken leg and an approximately 50-year-old man who experienced head pain. Investigators stated that a third person was rushed to a hospital, though their condition is unknown. Miraculously, no one was killed in the incident.
According to NBC Los Angeles, the owner of the grocery store said five people were eating outside at the time and that a separate family of three was able to jump out of the car’s path.
Eyewitness Joe Diaz said, “I heard the screech and then I looked over and I hear the car hit the box. And then hits into the two, two people (who) were here as a mom and daughter. So, they were eating and unfortunately, this happened.”
Another eyewitness speaking with KTLA 5 says the vehicle had hit something that caused it to careen into the sidewalk.
Additional footage shows that the older-model SUV sustained front-end damage and a shattered rear window. The LAPD describes the incident as a multi-vehicle crash that involves three vehicles.
ABC7 reports that the driver of the SUV was taken into custody.
It is unclear whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident. The case remains under investigation.
