Obsession was already a massive hit after its superlative box office run, and now it has found further success on digital streaming. Written and directed by Curry Barker, the movie became available on digital on June 30.
Obsession is already on top right after its digital streaming release
Obsession leads the iTunes movie charts as of July 1, 2026, according to PopVortex. The Devil Wears Prada 2, which also came out on digital on June 30, occupies the second spot. The other entries on the list are Citizen Vigilante, Project Hail Mary, Michael, Send Help, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Mortal Kombat II, 2025’s Pressure, and Tuner. Chris Hemsworth’s Crime 101, Busboys, Hokum, The Drama, and Blazing Saddles are also on the list.
Obsession originally had its world premiere on September 5, 2025, at the 50th annual Toronto International Film Festival before it debuted in US theaters on May 15, 2026, through Focus Features. The movie had a production budget of $750,000 (via The New York Times) and ended up making over $372 million at the global box office (via Box Office Mojo). It also has an impressive 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Monica Castillo of AV Club shared in a review, “With a simple premise and one unassuming wish, Barker immerses his audience in a dark scenario that only escalates in tension and carnage. It’s the kind of horror movie that makes a viewer uneasy almost from the start and doesn’t let up until the credits roll.”
The plot revolves around Michael Johnston’s Baron “Bear” Bailey, who uses a supernatural toy to wish that his crush, Inde Navarrette’s Nikki Freeman, would fall in love with him. His wish comes true but with disastrous consequences.
The cast also includes Cooper Tomlinson as Ian, Megan Lawless as Sarah Harper, and Andy Richter as Carter Harper. Additionally, Barker provides the voice for One Wish Willow’s customer service representative.
