Wild theory has fans believing Obsession and Weapons are connected
A fan thread that’s been picking up steam on X (formerly Twitter) has people connecting some dots between Curry Barker’s Obsession and Zach Cregger’s Weapons. Even though the movies come from different directors, some fans are convinced they might secretly share the same universe.
The main clue is the creepy supernatural objects. In Weapons, Aunt Gladys kicks off her witchcraft ritual with a holly tree branch, setting off the chain of events behind the missing kids. Over in Obsession, Bear unleashes the power of the One Wish Willow by snapping a novelty item and wishing for Nikki to love him more than anyone else.
Since both movies use almost the same kind of trigger to unleash everything that happens later, some fans are convinced the One Wish Willow in Obsession could come from the very same tree connected to Aunt Gladys in Weapons. Others theorize the objects simply share the same magical lore. Either way, the shared witchcraft angle has fans connecting the dots (via ScreenRant).
However, according to the official One Wish Willow website, you only get one wish for your entire life, and certain wishes are off-limits. That doesn’t really line up with Aunt Gladys in Weapons, who appears to make multiple wishes.
Even with that little contradiction, most fans are treating the similarities as a fun “what if?” rather than hard evidence. Weapons ended up being one of 2025’s biggest horror winners and even earned awards attention, while Obsession has kept the spooky train rolling in 2026 with strong box-office numbers.
