Production on Season 2 of Young Sherlock has officially begun, indicating that the Prime Video mystery drama could potentially return sometime in mid-to-late 2027. The update arrives only months after the first season concluded earlier this year.
Series creator and showrunner Matthew Parkhill confirmed the news by sharing behind-the-scenes photos from the set on social media. Among the images was a production slate for Season 2 Episode 2 alongside new looks at Hero Fiennes Tiffin returning as Sherlock Holmes and Dónal Finn reprising his role as James Moriarty.
Season 2 is currently filming in Palermo, Italy, marking a noticeable change from the first season, which shot extensively across Spain. The latest production update also revealed a new creative addition behind the camera.
Colm McCarthy is directing the second episode of the season. McCarthy previously worked on BBC’s Sherlock, including one episode from the show’s third season. Meanwhile, cinematographer Mark Patten is also returning after working on all episodes of Season 1.
As of now, official story details remain undisclosed. The latest behind-the-scenes images offered a small glimpse at what viewers can expect from the new season. Moriarty appeared in disguise dressed as a priest, while Sherlock was seen wearing a more traditional detective-inspired outfit while moving through city streets.
Prime Video has not announced an official release date for Season 2 yet. However, with filming already underway, the series is widely expected to return next year.
