Cooper Hoffman, Philip Seymour Hoffman’s son, is heading to Hulu with a fresh drama. The actor will lead the movie as a former sports prospect chasing fast money and redemption.
The upcoming pilot blends romance, danger, and small-town chaos while following two young people trying to escape their problems. Hulu’s latest project also continues Hoffman’s steady rise after several high-profile film roles in recent years.
Cooper Hoffman joins the cast of Hulu pilot Durango
In Durango, Cooper Hoffman will play Mikey, a local snowboarding legend whose Olympic hopes disappeared after a serious injury (via Variety). According to the show’s description, Mikey is now stuck drifting through life in a ski town while searching for quick ways to make money. Things change when he agrees to a green card marriage with a runaway named Bunny, only for the situation to spiral into something much more dangerous.
The series follows Mikey and Bunny as they fall for each other while trying to stay ahead of the police, criminals, and Mikey’s wife. Bunny is described as a homeschooled runaway working at a roadside diner, while Mikey is portrayed as laid-back but street smart. The pair chase what the show calls their own version of the American dream, even as their choices continue getting riskier.
The pilot comes from Eliza Clark, who wrote the script and executive produces the project. 20th Television and Media Res are producing the series alongside producer Michael Ellenberg.
Hoffman first gained major attention with Licorice Pizza, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Since then, he has continued building a busy film career with projects including The Long Walk, Wildcat, and Saturday Night. He also has several upcoming movies lined up, including I Want Your Sex with Olivia Wilde and Artificial from Luca Guadagnino.
For those unfamiliar, Cooper Hoffman is the son of the late Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died in 2014 from a drug overdose involving heroin. Philip Seymour Hoffman was widely respected for his performances in films like Along Came Polly, The Master, and The Hunger Games.
