President Donald Trump took a break from policy discussions at a GOP retreat to sing the praises of his wife, Melania Trump, calling her a “movie star” following the release of her new documentary.

Speaking at the Republican caucus’s annual policy retreat on March 9, at Trump National Doral in Florida, Donald Trump shifted from political rhetoric to personal pride. He addressed House Republicans gathered at his golf club and couldn’t resist talking about the success of his wife’s latest venture.
During his speech, the president shared a story about his first term, recalling a moment he felt proud of lowering drug prices and rushing home to share the news with Melania. But the story quickly turned into a celebration of her new career path. “I went home and told our great first lady, who’s now a movie star,” Donald Trump told the crowd.
He seemed genuinely amazed by the public’s reaction to the film, which began streaming on Amazon the same day as his speech. “She’s got the biggest… Can you believe this? That movie was hot and it is hot. She became a movie star,” he said. “It was a good movie,” he added.
Trump was by Melania’s side at the Kennedy Center on January 29 for the film’s premiere. The documentary, simply titled Melania, promises an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the 20 days leading up to Trump’s second inauguration, all captured through the first lady-elect’s perspective.
Since hitting theaters on January 30, the film has generated plenty of conversation, mostly due to a massive gap in how critics and audiences received it. As of March 11, Melania sits at just 11% on Rotten Tomatoes’ critic score, up slightly from its previous 8%.
This isn’t the first time Trump has cheered on his wife’s film. Previously, during the State of the Union address, he touted Melania for being the leading person to care about America’s Youth, again, calling her a “movie star” (via CNN).
