Hugh Jackman shares BTS video with Bambi and Ben for The Sheep Detectives
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Hugh Jackman treated followers to an inside look at the making of The Sheep Detectives. The actor shared a photo of himself in full costume, looking rugged while holding a feeding bottle. But the real highlight came in the accompanying video, featuring two of his woolly costars, aka Bambi and Ben.
The clip shows the two sheep in a cage, responding adorably as Jackman says hello throughout the entirety of the interaction. The playful moment offers a heartwarming preview of the animal actors who play a crucial role in this new movie starring Hugh Jackman.
The Sheep Detectives casts the Oscar-nominated actor as George. He is a shepherd whose nightly routine involves reading detective novels to his flock while putting them to sleep. The trailer reveals that when George is found dead on the farm—”not moving,” as one concerned sheep puts it—the woolly friends must take matters into their own hooves.
“Our shepherd was murdered,” one sheep declares in the trailer, while another adds, “The policeman is completely hopeless. We need to help him.” The flock decides to use everything they’ve learned from George’s bedtime stories to crack the case themselves.
This sheep detective movie features an impressive ensemble lending their voices to the crime-solving flock. Julia Louis-Dreyfus leads the woolly crew as Lily, joined by Bryan Cranston, Chris O’Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey, Brett Goldstein, and Rhys Darby.
The live-action cast includes Emma Thompson, Nicholas Braun as a hapless police officer, Nicholas Galitzine, Molly Gordon, and Hong Chau. Director Kyle Balda makes his live-action directorial debut. The script by Craig Mazin is based on Leonie Swann’s 2005 novel Three Bags Full.
The Sheep Detectives will be released in theatres on May 8, 2026.
