Donald Trump appeared with a significant bruise on his left hand on Thursday, January 22, at Davos, raising concerns about his health. The 79-year-old president has previously been seen with bruising on his right hand, which the Trump administration has explained away with various excuses ranging from “chronic venous insufficiency,” to excessive handshaking and an abnormally large dose of aspirin. This time, White House Press Secretary Karoline Levitt has a different excuse for Trump’s hand bruise.
Trump’s new bruise not caused by handshaking this time, White House says
Donald Trump sustained a new purple bruise on his left hand due to slamming against a table, according to statement by Leavitt to reporter Sara Cook on X (formerly Twitter).
“At the Board of Peace event today in Davos, President Trump hit his hand in the corner of the signing table, causing it to bruise,” the press secretary said.
Cook notes that Trump didn’t have a noticeable bruise at the start of the event and was told by a different White House official that his aspirin usage was also at fault.
The Daily Telegraph later reported that the president had the bruise seemingly covered up with makeup an hour after the event.
Many users commenting on Cook’s report, however, are skeptical of The White House’s explanation for the new bruise. One writes that “no one bruises that quickly,” while another believes the official excuse is a deflection: “You are not seeing what you’re seeing. Do not believe your own eyes.”
In January, Trump revealed to the Wall Street Journal that he takes a higher daily dose of aspirin than is recommended, which makes it easier for bruises to form.
“They say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood,” the president said, “and I don’t want thick blood pouring through my heart.”
Donald Trump has been seen dozing off during multiple segments on air, causing concerns from doctors that he has a more serious condition that has not been disclosed.
