The Great Flood dominates Netflix global movie chart

Netflix’s South Korean disaster film The Great Flood continues to perform strongly on the platform, continuing to lead global viewership rankings weeks after its debut. It premiered on the streamer on December 19, 2025.

The sci-fi disaster film has now held the number 1 position on Netflix’s non-English movie chart for four consecutive weeks. According to Netflix‘s weekly viewing data, the film recorded 5.2 million views from January 5 to 11. The performance has also placed The Great Flood at No. 7 on Netflix’s all-time list of most-watched non-English films.

Directed by Kim Byung-woo, the film depicts a high-stakes survival story set after a catastrophic flood submerges much of the planet. The plot follows Dr. Gu An-na, an artificial intelligence researcher trapped inside a sinking apartment complex, and Son Hee-jo, a security operative assigned to reach her. As the situation deteriorates, the stakes rise, with far-reaching consequences for humanity.

Kim Da-mi leads the cast as Dr. Gu An-na opposite Park Hae-soo as Son Hee-jo. The supporting cast includes Kwon Eun-seong as Shin Ja-in, Kang Bin as Mi-jung, and Jeon Yu-na as Lee Ji-soo, among others.

Critical response has been mixed despite the film’s popularity with viewers. The Great Flood currently holds a 54 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 24 reviews. Meanwhile, the movie holds a 35 percent audience score on the Popcornmeter.

Jonathon Wilson of Ready Steady Cut wrote, “The Great Flood starts out as a very compelling disaster movie, but it almost becomes a disaster of a movie on the back of its own confounding ambition.”
