Blue Bloods’ Sean Reagan Actor Weighs in on Getting Recast for Spin-off

Andrew Terraciano has publicly supported Mika Amonsen, who now plays Sean Reagan in Boston Blue, the spinoff of Blue Bloods. “It’s beautiful because you’ll always remember every single line and every day that you had the opportunity to be that character,” the actor told US Weekly.

He continued, “It doesn’t mean for even a second that somebody else can’t go and do something beautiful with it.” Terraciano added, “I got the joy of playing Sean, and I got to send him off into the world. Now somebody else gets that joy.”

Terraciano appeared in nearly 300 episodes of Blue Bloods from 2010 to 2024. He learned of the recasting on his graduation day and later received a call from Donnie Wahlberg. “It was a really beautiful moment of getting to hear from an old friend,” he said. Although he has not yet watched Boston Blue, he stated, “I’m going to give it the time and the respect that it deserves,” and added, “If [Donnie] says the word, I’ll be there.”

Mika Amonsen made his debut as Sean Reagan in the Boston Blue premiere. In the series, the character begins his career as a Boston police officer. Amonsen expressed his intent to honor Terraciano’s portrayal, which Terraciano acknowledged. “There’s also a very clear love coming to the show… Somebody can look back and say, ‘I want to pay homage to that.’”

Co-creators Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis explained the decision to recast Sean. “We wanted a slightly different version of Sean,” Margolis told TV Insider. “As you saw in the pilot, he has made some life changes and having joined the police force, he is really picking up that family mantle.” They said the story begins “in progress,” with Sean stepping into a new chapter.

Boston Blue airs Fridays at 10/9c on CBS.
