‘Star Trek’, ‘Gladiator’ & DreamWorks Soundtracks Coming To First-Ever Sydney Film Music Festival

The first annual Sydney Film Music Festival has unveiled its 2017 lineup, featuring scores from Star Trek, Gladiator and a bunch of DreamWorks classics.

This October, Sydney’s new International Convention Centre Theatre will host the festival over three nights, with a symphony orchestra performing scores written by Hans Zimmer, Alexandre Desplat, John Powell and more, as the films screen alongside the music.

Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage will showcase music and vision from the franchise’s extensive history. Zimmer’s Gladiator score will be performed in full, while DreamWorks Animation: In Concert will include moments from the likes of Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, How To Train Your Dragon and more.

“Music provides the emotional heartbeat of film and to bring together the two worlds to create an even greater experience for the senses is a real privilege,” says festival curator Scott Mesiti.

“We look forward to this becoming an annual event to bring together the music and cinematic worlds in a celebration of emotion and humanity through the mediums.”
