New York Comic Con | ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ Game Debuts At NYCC

It was Morphin Time on the first day of New York Comic Con 2016! While Lionsgate unveiled a few new posters for the Power Rangers movie, Bandai Namco stole the spotlight with the announcement and first full trailer for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle.

Mega Battle is a side-scrolling throwback action game that places multiple players in charge of the five original members of the team, along with the Green Ranger as they go up against the forces of Rita Repulsa. It’s not a direct translation of the live-action TV series that kicked off the franchise, and its not clear if any of the surviving performers will reprise their roles. The early gameplay features stylized graphics with slightly oversized heads as the Rangers engage in a TMNT and Final Fight style beat ’em up.

We have to admit that we’d have much rather seen a 3D Power Rangers game similar to Transformers: Devastation and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan rather than the game that we got. But the ability to fight in the Zords and take on Lord Zedd is very enticing. Whether that will be enough to make this a worthy release for the franchise remains to be seen.

Bandai Namco will release Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle for Xbox One and Playstation 4 in January 2017, which is naturally just a few months before the movie hits on March 24, 2017.

What do you think about the early footage for Mega Battle? Is this game a worthy of the Power Rangers? Let the power protect you in the comment section below!
