Ben Affleck Says His Batman Is The Definite Article

“Wow,” Selina Kyle exclaimed in Batman Returns. “The Batman! Or is it just ‘Batman?’ Uh… Your choice, of course!”

Indeed it was, and for years it seemed as though Bruce Wayne erred on the side of just “Batman.” But times changed, reboots need to differentiate themselves, and now it appears that the new caped crusader is the definite article. Or at least, he has a definite article in his name. Ben Affleck has announced that – for now, at least (these things are subject to change) – the next Batman solo movie is being called The Batman.

In a recent interview with Associated Press, Ben Affleck – who will star in direct, and co-write The Batman – revealed their intentions.

“The movie I think is going to be called The Batman, at least that’s what we’re going with now,” Affleck told AP. “I might change it. I think that’s about it right now, that’s all I got. We’re working on the script, the script is going well. I’m really excited about it and I assure you that when there’s anything that develops you’ll hear about it.”

The title The Batman has been used in film and television once before, in an anime-inspired animated series that ran for five seasons, from 2004-2008.

The Batman, the movie, will be co-written by DC comics writer Geoff Johns, and will feature the mercenary Deathstroke The Terminator as at least one of its villains. Deathstroke will be played by Pee-wee’s Big Holiday co-star Joe Manganiello, who previously played Flash Thompson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movie trilogy.
