Kentucky Fans Marry While Camping Out For Practice Tickets

The top college basketball programs kick off their season with an annual ‘Midnight Madness’ type event in which players are introduced before a public scrimmage. Over the last decade or so the events have snowballed into ridiculously hyped-up performances. Nowhere has that sentiment rang more true than in basketball-crazed Lexington Kentucky.

The Kentucky Wildcats don’t have their ‘Big Blue Madness‘ until Oct. 14, but tickets for the Rupp Arena event went on sale this past weekend. Among the countless people camping outside Memorial Stadium just to snag some of those tickets were Ray Branham and Vicki Harvey. They decided it would be a good idea to get hitched while they wait.

The couple was formally married in front of Memorial Stadium just hours before tickets for Big Blue Madness went on sale. Harvey and Branham were the first in line, having pitched their tent Monday. The couple has known one another for more than 15 years.

Branham is a warehouse manager, and Harvey works for ATS Construction.

Landing that first spot in line was the last bit of inspiration Branham needed to ask Harvey to marry him.

“It was exciting. I love spending it with the UK fans,” Harvey said.

The wedding ceremony was attended by more than 60 people.

God bless ‘Merica. God bless, Kentucky.
