Could the PS4 Neo Launch This Week?

Sony’s PlayStation Meeting event on September 7 will feature the official unveiling of the PS4 Neo, the company’s first 4K-ready console. While we know this much to be true, there are still question marks surrounding the release date of the upcoming console, though a major hint may have been dropped which suggests that the PS4 Neo will arrive sooner rather than later.

As spotted by VideoGamer‘s David Scammell, a report from the Financial Times pertaining to the console reads: “Sony is still placing big bets on its PlayStation home console, with an upgraded, higher-end version, codenamed “Neo”, expected to launch next week. The new device will support ultra-high definition (UHD) resolution and virtual reality, to dovetail with the launch of the PlayStation VR headset in October.”

While this could easily be a mistake on the behalf of the publication, considering that Sony exclusively divulged information to the Financial Times regarding the PS4 Neo back in June, the outlet could be privy to insider information such as the console’s projected release date. Coupled with their comments that the console’s release will “dovetail with the launch of the PlayStation VR,” which will launch on October 13th, and the new console being officially released this week stops sounding like a completely improbable scenario.

Though this speculation should be taken with a very large pinch of salt, it does at least seemingly confirm that the PS4 Neo will be released to complement the launch of the PS VR, so it seems that the Financial Times does at least possession some information in regards to when we’ll see the release of the upgraded console – unless, of course, this is simply the result of a couple of unfortunate mistakes in FT‘s article. We’ll have to wait until the PlayStation Meeting to find out for sure.
