PGA Championship Week: Callaway Gear for Late Summer Golf

As we continue Crave’s coverage of Mercedes-Benz and this weekend’s PGA Championship at Baltusrol, look for coverage of gear and golfer-friendly travel spots.

You’ll see Callaway splashed all around historic Baltusrol here in New Jersey during the 2016 PGA Championship. With some of its 2016 editions, even a high handicapper can get his or her hands on professional level equipment.

The California golf company keeps several top pros supplied with the most recent equipment. From Phil Mickelson to Jim Furyk, Henrik Stenson to Patrick Reed, they all play Callaway. Recently, Carlsbad’s own equipment makers sent along some samples to let us sample what the best in the world see in Callaway.

Odyssey Works Tank Cruiser #1 Putter: The Callaway Odyssey  line of putters might be best known for its Fan Series – two ball putter designs with a signature, two-prong V design. While not as flashy and one of the simpler designs in the Odyssey line, the Tank Cruiser still employs the same high-quality materials as the Fangs and other Odysseys. It also provides excellent control for players with a lighter putting touch. It’s a great option for mid-and-low handicappers.

2016 XR Driver: Callaway is famous for its Big Bertha line of drivers, but the club maker also creates its own, self-branded drivers for pros and amateurs each year. The amateur golfer’s Callaway option for 2016 is the XR (below). Offering nice balance that keeps what weight the light club has at the end of the stick, Callaway puts channels on the bottom of the club — employing aerodynamics that work to keep a swing on line and in the slot.

Callaway Chrome Soft Golf Balls: It’s tough for the amateur golfer to put spin on the shot around the greens the way the pros do. So, instead, that pleasure player needs a soft landing golf ball to at least keep a good shot’s result around the landing point.

The Callaway Chrome Soft ball uses four-stage construction and a urethane cover to allow the pellet to land softer and settle before awaiting a birdie putt.

All of the above products are available currently both online and in golf shops across the country.
