CNN’s Scott Jennings Hit With $72.5M Lawsuit Over Hasan Piker Remarks

Scott Jennings is facing a defamation lawsuit over comments he made about political streamer Hasan Piker. Piker alleged the CNN contributor misrepresented his remarks about lynchings during a podcast episode. The lawsuit seeks $72.5 million in damages over the alleged defamation.

Piker alleges Scott Jennings falsely portrayed his comments about lynchings

According to TMZ, Piker filed a defamation lawsuit against Jennings on October 27, 2026. The complaint concerns an August 11 episode of Jennings’ podcast. Piker alleged Jennings used edited clips to portray him as supporting lynchings.

The lawsuit alleges that Jennings played a compilation of edited clips from Piker’s livestreams during the episode. One clip allegedly suggested Piker wanted to return to a time “when lynchings were happening.” Jennings also allegedly told Black voters Piker planned on “returning our country to lynchings.”

However, Piker argues that the edited clips removed his remarks from their original context. Piker’s attorneys claim that he was sarcastically responding to another commentator’s remarks. They maintain his comments did not express support for lynching.

The lawsuit strongly disputes Jennings’ alleged characterization of the streamer’s views. Piker’s attorneys wrote, “These were not expressions of disagreement with Mr. Piker’s politics.” They argued the statements went beyond criticizing his controversial political positions.

The filing further alleges that Jennings presented the accusations as factual claims. Piker’s attorneys argued that Jennings made factual assertions about Piker’s statements and political views. They described those assertions as “demonstrably false.”

Piker alleges the comments damaged his reputation and threatened his ability to earn a living. He is seeking $72.5 million in damages through the lawsuit. The substantial damages sought could make the lawsuit financially consequential for Jennings.

Piker’s attorneys also reportedly sent Jennings a letter demanding a retraction. The complaint alleged that Jennings never provided a substantive response to the retraction demand. The lawsuit does not establish that Jennings committed defamation; the allegations must be resolved through legal proceedings.

Jennings is a conservative political commentator and CNN contributor. Piker is a left-wing political streamer known for commentary on Twitch. Their dispute centers on whether Jennings falsely portrayed Piker as supporting lynchings.

Jennings had not publicly responded to the lawsuit in the report. The case centers on Jennings’ podcast remarks and whether they misrepresented Piker’s statements. Piker is seeking compensation for the reputational and financial harm he claims to have suffered.
