Jaafar Jackson has shared his thoughts on the questions surrounding his late uncle, Michael Jackson, and a possible second biopic. The actor played the King of Pop in the hit film Michael. He says people can learn about his uncle through his music and other work. However, Jaafar still does not know whether the film will get a sequel.
Jaafar Jackson addressed questions about his uncle’s controversial history and a possible sequel
In an interview with Variety, Jaafar discussed how people can understand Michael’s life. He pointed to the singer’s lyrics, poems, music videos and public talks. He also mentioned Michael’s charity work, visits to other countries and time spent with children.
“Finding out who Michael was is in his music,” Jaafar said.
When asked whether a second film would address the allegations against Michael, Jaafar said he had no confirmed details. “Part two, I can’t say, because I don’t know. It’s not up to me,” he explained. He added that his role was to prepare and give the best performance he could. Jaafar also said he was “more than ready” to return if the studio approved another film.
Michael faced a sexual abuse allegation in 1993 involving 13-year-old Jordan Chandler. The singer later reached an out-of-court settlement with the Chandler family, reportedly valued at $25 million. Michael also faced other allegations of grooming and sexual abuse involving minors, which he and his family denied.
Jaafar previously told GQ Middle East in August that he hoped a sequel would offer more insight into his uncle’s point of view.
In that interview, Jaafar argued that people often told Michael’s story from someone else’s perspective. He said the family had struggled to make sure Michael’s voice received attention, particularly during his later years.
The first biopic, Michael, premiered on April 24 and follows the singer’s early life and rise to fame. The film earned $314 million during its opening weekend and surpassed $1 billion less than three months later, becoming Lionsgate’s highest-grossing movie and the highest-grossing biopic of all time.
