The actress is already preparing for two major appearances despite using a cane
In an Instagram post shared on October 20, Close explained why she has been using a cane and thanked fans for their support. She revealed that doctors had found her left hip to be in poor condition, leading her to undergo a complete hip replacement.
“I have a cane because I had a complete hip replacement,” she explained. “I found out that my left hip was in really bad shape and my whole thing is to keep myself in running order so I can really leap into whatever challenges come my way.”
Despite her recovery, the 79-year-old actress is hoping to return to her usual routine soon. Close said she plans to travel to London on October 26 for the opening of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, in which she plays Drusilla Sickle. She then expects to return to New York for the opening of All’s Fair.
“I’m hobbling around on a cane for now, but I hope come the 26th I’ll be on a plane for London to be there for the opening of Hunger Games,” she shared. “And then back to New York for the opening of All’s Fair.”
Close also spoke about her hopes for recovery, explaining that she wants to feel like herself again as she gets ready for her upcoming appearances. “I hope to be fully present there,” she continued. “Maybe not running around going up mountains but at least my good old self.”
The actress reassured fans that she was feeling well and had the support of her family as she recovered. She also thanked her surgeon, Dr. Edwin Sue, at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, for carrying out the procedure.
Beyond her upcoming film appearance, Close is also looking forward to spending more time with her All’s Fair co-stars, including Niecy Nash, Sarah Paulson, Teyana Taylor and Kim Kardashian.
Close previously spoke warmly about Kardashian, who stars alongside her in the Ryan Murphy series. In an interview with E! News last year, the actress praised Kardashian’s approach to acting and preparation for the role. “First of all, she’s a very sweet woman, she does her homework,” Close said. “She has great people around her, which says a lot.”
For now, Close is focusing on her recovery while preparing for her upcoming commitments. Although she is still using a cane, the actress remains hopeful that she will be able to attend both events as planned.
