Amanda Seyfried opened up about a series of awkward red carpet interviews in which she had to field questions about Elizabeth Holmes. The interviews have drawn renewed attention following the release of Nathan Fielder’s new documentary. The actress, who portrayed the disgraced Theranos founder in The Dropout, acknowledged the awkward encounters.
Amanda Seyfried comments on a red-carpet clip as Elizabeth Holmes questions keep coming
Seyfried attended the Academy Museum’s sixth annual gala on October 17. It was just days after the theatrical release of Fielder’s documentary, “You Can See Everything”. According to Entertainment Weekly, reporters questioned Seyfried about Elizabeth Holmes, but she tried to steer the conversation away from the subject.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, a reporter asked Seyfried whether she had been finding interviews difficult lately.
“It’s interesting, yeah, it’s interesting,” she replied. “But, for a good reason. I don’t know, I think everything that’s happening is meant to happen [and] everything, everyone that’s in your life is meant to be in your life.”
She continued, “That’s just, kind of— and I’m here tonight. I’m meant to be here, and I get to go home tomorrow and I’m meant to be home and so on and so forth.”
When a reporter asked whether her “interesting” life had made ordinary conversations difficult, she answered, “Only of late.”
The reporter then asked what Seyfried would prefer to discuss instead, given that there were “things [she] can’t talk about.” She offered some unexpected alternatives.
“I like to talk about the emus. I like to talk about Halloween. And you can engage with me if you want to talk about all things having to do with apple pie and olives and really good hard ciders.”
The actress later acknowledged how strange the exchange sounded. She commented beneath an Instagram clip of the interview: “What AM I even saying”.
During another red-carpet interview with Variety, Seyfried began with a warning: “Don’t ask me anything! Do not ask me anything.”
When the reporter asked what had brought her to the event, she replied, “Diamonds.” The interviewer then made a playful reference to Fielder’s documentary, saying, “Because I can see everything.”
Seyfried responded, “I don’t know what you mean.”
