Matthew McConaughey appeared on the Build or Break podcast with host Daniel Lubetzky, where he discussed his time spent in the desert.  The actor recalled reading bad reviews spanning his career in two days.

He said, “Well, first off, it does affect me,” joking, “but part of my flip in the denial is the ones who wrote the good reviews were the smart ones.”

McConaughey revealed he spent his time in the desert with 20 years of reviews. The actor had those reviews in a thick book and read all the negative reviews.

He said, “I read every one, all the negative reviews. I’m sorry, not all the positive.”

The actor admitted reviews were hard to read, adding, “Some of the reviews, what I learned is that, oh, from the very first sentence, ‘Oh, this person has it out for me.” It didn’t matter if they saw the movie or not.”

However, he agreed that they were writing fair and objective criticism that led to him thinking what he could learn from them.

He said, “I was like, ‘This person’s got a point. They’re actually a fan of mine, and they didn’t get from my performance what I was actually kinda hoping they would have got. Where did I fail in the choice?’ Because this is constructive criticism.”

McConaughey has been part of many TV shows and movies. Some of his prominent roles include The Wolf of Wall Street in 2013 and Interstellar in 2014. (via Huff Post)

The actor admitted that negative reviews are part of his role, and said we have to learn from criticism and handle it with grace.
