A$AP Rocky Draws a Sharp Distinction Between Himself and AI-Made Music

AI technology has advanced so rapidly that several applications can now generate complete songs, including vocals and music. Amid this growing trend, A$AP Rocky draws a clear distinction between his creative approach and AI-generated music.

A$AP Rocky sees potential in AI but favors a hands-on creative process

American rapper A$AP Rocky recently spoke with Complex in an interview published on Wednesday, October 14. He discussed AI-generated music, saying he recognizes its potential but prefers making music himself.

Rocky said, “I feel like when guys like Flexin’ Phoenix (Fenix Flexin), whatever his name is, and Tyga—I don’t know their process of how they make it, but I know when they made it, they caught a lot of backlash and s*** like that.”

“Me, personally, I prefer to do things myself, practically,” he added. He continued, “AI has a lot of negative connotations. I don’t think when it’s used in certain ways that it’s necessarily a right or wrong thing.”

The rapper concluded, “AI is supposed to be a tool in that sense. If somebody does a totally AI-generated song where all they did was prompt something, then I think that that’s their thing. But who am I to say what’s standard and what’s not?”

For context, A$AP Rocky mentioned American rapper Fenix Flexin, who previously acknowledged using AI to create his viral hit song “RUBBERZ.” Similarly, rapper Tyga reportedly used artificial intelligence in creating his new album, $tarface.

A$AP Rocky isn’t the only celebrity to share his thoughts on AI’s growing impact on the music industry. Singer Kelly Clarkson has also weighed in before, saying she loves AI but draws the line at the charts.

As the 38-year-old rapper put it, “I’m just doing me out here and I’m doing my music practically—the right way.” Their comments suggest that both prominent music industry figures share similar views on AI and music creation.
