‘The Batman Part II’ Gets Unexpected Help as Matt Reeves Takes Hiatus

Steven Soderbergh is stepping in to help finish The Batman Part II while Matt Reeves handles a family matter. The Oscar-winning director will work with the film’s team as principal photography nears its end. DC Studios has confirmed Soderbergh’s role in the production. Reeves will continue to guide the movie and protect his original vision.

According to Variety, a DC Studios representative said Soderbergh offered to help because he admires Reeves’ work. The studio also confirmed that Reeves has its full support during this time. “Matt and Steven will work closely together with the actors and crew to fulfill Matt’s vision of the film,” the representative said. Soderbergh will help the team capture footage that fits the scenes they have already filmed.

Soderbergh also praised Reeves’ first The Batman, calling it “stunning” and describing it as “intentional, specific and rigorously coherent.” He said his goal was to help create footage that blends smoothly with the existing material. Reeves later clarified on X that he would continue to be involved in the production. However, he will not be on set as the crew finishes principal photography.

Warner Bros. and DC Studios announced a temporary production pause in early October. At the time, a studio representative said Reeves had stepped away to focus on a “family matter.” The studio also indicated that it was in full support of Reeves and would soon take up the project.

The sequel has faced several delays since its announcement at CinemaCon in 2022. Warner Bros. first planned to release it on October 2, 2026, before moving the date to October 1, 2027. In June, the studio pushed the release again to February 2028. Robert Pattinson will return as Batman, alongside Scarlett Johansson, Colin Farrell, Sebastian Stan, Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright, as the team works to complete the highly anticipated sequel.
