Kanye West has recently been making headlines over his Malibu mansion. Now, the rapper reportedly faces another six-figure financial setback in the ongoing dispute over the property.
Kanye West’s latest court-ordered payments add more than $181,000 to the cost of his Malibu mansion battle
The American rapper is facing further trouble over the renovation dispute involving his Malibu mansion. A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has ordered him to pay his former project manager, Tony Saxon, another six-figure sum in attorney fees and legal costs. The ruling brings the total amount awarded to approximately $321,000.
According to Billboard, Judge Brock Hammond issued the ruling on Tuesday, October 13. He ordered Ye to pay $147,000 in attorney fees and $34,433.93 in legal costs. The order comes months after a March verdict in which a jury awarded Saxon $140,000 in damages for an injury he sustained while working on the property.
Neither side got everything it wanted in the ruling. After the trial, Tony Saxon’s lawyers requested approximately $1.23 million in attorney fees and legal costs. Meanwhile, Ye’s lawyers argued that the court should deny the request and cap any payment at $59,425. Judge Hammond ultimately awarded an amount far below Saxon’s request. However, it was well above the figure proposed by Ye’s legal team.
Both sides have reacted to the court’s decision on attorney fees. Saxon’s lawyer, Ron Zambrano, told Billboard, “I respect Judge Hammond’s willingness to consider my argument for a higher amount.” He added that he believes the work involved in securing the jury verdict deserved far more than the amount the judge approved.
For context, Kanye West previously faced a lawsuit from his former project manager and contractor, Tony Saxon, in March 2023. Saxon initially sought $1 million before increasing his demand to $1.7 million. The lawsuit involved renovation work on West’s luxurious $57 million Malibu mansion.
