Jeremy Renner Throws Shade at Marvel Over ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Snub

Jeremy Renner is poking fun at Marvel after confirming he will not appear in Avengers: Doomsday. The actor joked that leaving Hawkeye out could have serious consequences for the superhero team. His comments also raised questions about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Jeremy Renner jokes and warns the superheroes could lose without Hawkeye

Renner addressed his absence during a recent interview about the upcoming Marvel blockbuster. When asked whether he would return, the actor immediately ruled out an appearance. “No, no, no, no. Not in that one,” he said.

The actor then suggested the Avengers might struggle without his character. “’Doomsday’ I’m not in, so the Avengers will probably lose, just so you know,” Renner joked. He also made clear that Marvel had not contacted him about joining the project.

“They didn’t call me, so it’s their fault,” he added. Renner repeated his prediction about the superhero team’s potential defeat. “They’re going to lose,” he warned, seemingly teasing Marvel over Hawkeye’s absence.

Renner has portrayed Hawkeye across several Marvel projects, including The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Avengers: Endgame. He also made appearances in Thor and Captain America: Civil War. His character has remained a familiar presence throughout the franchise.

Despite missing Avengers: Doomsday, Renner previously expressed enthusiasm about returning to the MCU. In 2025, he told Empire he remained open to reprising Hawkeye. “I’m always happy to be in that world, man. I love all those guys, I love the character,” he said.

At the time, Renner also discussed the possibility of a second Hawkeye season. He said he was willing to revisit the role and perform stunts again. The actor had previously reported recovering “more than 150%” from his 2023 snowmobile accident.

Meanwhile, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18. Renner also expressed excitement about Avengers: Endgame returning to theaters ahead of the new installment. For now, his absence leaves fans wondering whether Hawkeye could return in a future Marvel project.
