Gillis opened his Saturday Night Live appearance with remarks that drew criticism. “I haven’t been to the gym in so long I didn’t know women just dress like whores now?” he said during the monologue. He also made a controversial comment about sexuality and Hitler, asking, “You’re either gay or you’re Hitler, and isn’t that where we’re at as a country?” Levy later addressed the remarks in a video.

“Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them whores,” Levy said. He argued that men who use that word to describe women are the ones showing misogyny. Levy also pointed out that he had seen more men’s nipples at the gym than women showing their bodies. He said he was shocked that Gillis could make such comments on live national television.

Levy then called on men to speak out against comments that demean women. “More men need to be standing up in opposition to it,” he said. He argued that complacency has helped create an environment where people treat sexual assault as a “conversation” instead of a “crime.” Levy added that men need to do more to defend women.

The actor also stressed that the issue affects everyone, not just women. “This is not a women’s issue, this is an everybody issue,” he said. Levy explained that when men objectify women in the media, other men may start to view and treat women as objects. He pushed back against that attitude and ended his response with an emphatic expletive, making clear how strongly he felt about the remarks.
