Jason Kelce’s Self-Deprecating Joke Comes Amid Weight Loss Journey

Jason Kelce brought humor to the Eagles-Jaguars broadcast while discussing a player’s unexpected role. The retired NFL star shared a personal memory about playing at a heavier weight. His joke also drew attention to his ongoing weight loss journey.

Jason Kelce joked about weighing around 300 pounds during the Eagles-Jaguars broadcast

Kelce joined the NFL Network broadcast booth for the Eagles vs. Jaguars game on Sunday, October 11. He praised Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton for stepping in as an emergency long snapper. Hamilton took over after starter Ross Matiscik suffered a first-quarter shoulder injury.

“I love it from the big fella,” Kelce said during the broadcast. He explained that he had also played long snapper in high school. “When I got to 300 pounds-ish, it became really hard to look in between your legs,” he recalled.

Kelce praised Hamilton for helping his team during an unexpected situation. “That’s an awesome job to come in there in an emergency and help your team out,” he said. “Way to go, DaVon Hamilton. I love it.”

His broadcast partner, former quarterback Kurt Warner, quickly responded to the remark. “You’ve never been fat,” Warner told Kelce. “You’re just husky.”

Kelce then referenced the body mass index, commonly known as BMI. “If you look at the BMI, I think I’m technically obese. Morbidly,” he joked. The exchange highlighted his willingness to poke fun at his own changing physique.

After playing 13 NFL seasons, Kelce has spoken openly about losing weight. In June 2024, he told GQ he was “already down 20 pounds.” By May 2025, Kelce said he weighed 270 pounds. He also shared that he hoped to remain between 250 and 265 pounds. “I don’t really want to get below 250,” he explained at the time.

Kelce also joked on his New Heights podcast that public reactions changed as he slimmed down. “Nobody liked me until I became fat,” he said in May 2026.

Despite the jokes, Kelce has previously described physical benefits from losing weight. He told GQ his back and knees already felt better after dropping pounds. The broadcast anecdote offered another humorous glimpse into his athletic past.
